World number one Serena Williams joined forces yesterday with celebrity chef Silvena Rowe to cook up a storm in a 'Gastronomy Grand Slam'
Top seed Williams took advantage of her first round bye to meet Rowe, who is a headline attraction at this weekend’s Dubai Food Carnival, the opening event of the Dubai Food Festival.
Williams swapped the tennis court for a frontline role at an al fresco BBQ as she linked up with Chef Rowe, the star of BBC cooking shows, Country Show Cook-Off and Saturday Kitchen, and Chef Eric Vasta, Executive Chef, Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, to whip up a grilled green shawarma marinated baby chicken with crunchy mint and pomegranate salad at the five-star property’s signature Nomad restaurant.
Former world number one tennis star Ana Ivanovic visited the Al Fahidi Historic Neighbourhood in Dubai. Ivanovic visited the Majlis Gallery and met local calligraphy artist and Majlis exhibitor Khaled Al Saai. Al Saai, a huge Ivanovic fan, prepared a special tribute to Ana, writing “Ana Ivanovic, Star of Tennis” in Arabic calligraphy for her.
Meanwhile on court, Lucie Safarova claimed an impressive 6-3 7-5 victory over former Australian Open semi-finalist Sloane Stephens at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Monday.
Two-time former champion Venus Williams made a winning start to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Monday, beating Elena Vesnina 6-3 6-2.
